Project 1. Typology and Photography

Atlantis Resort The Royal Tower-    Paradise Island, The Bahamas

Photos taken of the Royal Tower; one of four buildings that make up Atlantis Resort. I focused on capturing the aquatic, ruined characteristics, which give Atlantis its one-off look. The shapes and colours create a worn-out and rough appearance, that contrast with the vast height of the building and the fantastic sculptural aspects.

Project 3. Personal Project

Strength

Experimenting with metals, I looked at the different strengths each type possesses. Although utilising abstract characteristics, I took inspiration from sailboats, and their connection to freedom and strength to endure all conditions.

This was achieved by the abstract outline of recognised shapes. The random placement of rusty, broken, and incredibly sharp nails represents the harsh ocean, whilst the triangular cuts of weathered aluminium portray sails, cutting through life's battles.

The textural contrast of the nails versus the smoothness and repetitive patterns of the sails suggest they are inharmonious. However, they are the only materials used in the piece, proving that they can work together to keep the sculpture strong and intact.

Project 3. Self-portrait

Colour Blocked

A self-portrait, done when I felt as if I had completely exhausted my creativity towards the end of my IB examination year. I replicated my emotions through deeper blues and purples, but highlighted areas with pops of yellow, to indicate the 'light at the end of the tunnel'.
